Here’s a little picture I took last summer. As I said on Flickr, I was surprised by how well the light and focus played off the composition on this one. It’s a sweet shot that makes me smile.

This (full sized and panable) is a pano of the 2008 New Years celebration in Sydney. It comes from this site which has a number of other 2008 shots. As of this morning, New York is not there yet.
This is pretty cool. Here is a link to the explanation page. Although technically the winter solstice only lasts a moment, this photo shows the entire 24 hour period that occurs either during the shortest day or longest night of the year.

Apparently during the WW I years (early 1900’s), Mole and Thomas made some incredible human pictures by using thousands of sailors or soldiers in uniform to create images. At the Pidgeon Point Lighthouse they switch back to the old kerosene lamps once a year to test everything out. They then leave it in non-rotation so photographers can capture pictures like this one. Very nice! Read more about it.
