John C. Dvorak: The iPhone Is No Desktop

“People are willing to make a device that you can drop in the toilet or leave in a taxi cab the next desktop computing platform. Ridiculous.” I love the phone, but since I’ve nearly broken it a few times by dropping it, I have to agree with Dvorak.

Time-Lapse Video: Retreating Glacier

This remarkable image sequence captures a series of massive calving events at Columbia Glacier near Valdez, Alaska. Composed of 436 frames taken between May and September of 2007, it was taken as part of the ongoing Extreme Ice Survey, an ambitious project to capture global warming-induced glacial retreat in the act.
