Andy Ihnatko’s iPad Review

I love listening to and reading what smart people have to say.  Andy Ihnatko is smart and as much of an Apple fan-boy as I am, but he’s also much more likely to call them out for things that aren’t the way they should be.  In short, I trust his opinion (even though he is a fan-boy) and wanted to post a link to his first review of the new iPad.  I am waiting for a 3G version but I’ve played with a WiFi iPad and can’t want to get mine and customize it.  Here is Andy’s summary of why this new device is something entirely new and a game changer.  ANDY’S SUNTIMES REVIEW

In Bold Creative Move, TV Station Brands Itself as Large Bowel Movement

The Deuce.  It’s a bold stroke designed to get attention and it just might.  After all, how often do TV stations brand themselves using the nickname for a very large bowel movement?  I can’t remember too many.  If the name “The Deuce” works for KWGN,  other stations around the country just might flock to other bodily fluids and/or functions.  What a load of …. well, the name says it all.

Time Warner Apologizes for Cheesy Spoiler

Here is an actual description for a 2003 film called High Tension. It’s rare you see this level of lame pun/spoiler in a description, but even more rare that you get an immediate apology. Reminds me of the voice-overs we used to write at TV stations, and sometimes the interns would write themselves into the copy.

Very Funny Ads – BBC Flying Penguins

A great spot from the BBC showing how they never miss anything exciting and now thanks to their internet player, you don’t have to either.  It’s well done and it happens to have Monty Python’s Terry Jones in it, which is a nice bonus.

Tim Russert

Tim Russert was great at what he did and we will miss having his particular variety of analysis during this and upcoming political campaigns.  I used to wait for his reports on the Today Show the morning after a primary so I could know what just happened and what would happen next.  He would always put things into perspective in just a few sentences.  He wasn’t a star, just a regular guy who was in the perfect job and did it very very well.  Here is a recent clip of him playing his calm role, telling us what had just become true, when all the various spin doctors couldn’t or wouldn’t say it.  He knew his stuff, and we will miss him.

Conan O’Brien’s Grand Theft Auto

It seems the new Grand Theft Auto is a little tamer than previous versions.  Nice!
